Maloney Football Aims To Right The Ship After Lopsided Loss To New Canaan On Opening Night

Maloney Football Ready to Rebound after Lopsided Loss

Maloney Football Aiming to Rebound After Opening Night Defeat

Meriden, CT - Maloney High School football team is determined to bounce back after a disappointing 42-14 loss to New Canaan in their season opener last Friday night. The Spartans, who were ranked among the top teams in Class L entering the season, were outmatched by a talented New Canaan squad that featured several Division I recruits. Despite the setback, Maloney head coach Kevin Frederick remains confident in his team's ability to rebound and make a run at the playoffs.

Areas of Improvement

Maloney struggled in several areas in their loss to New Canaan. The Spartans' offense was unable to sustain drives consistently, and the defense was unable to slow down the New Canaan running game. Frederick said that his team needs to improve in all phases of the game in order to be successful going forward.

"We need to be more consistent on offense," Frederick said. "We had too many three-and-outs against New Canaan. We also need to do a better job of tackling on defense. We missed too many tackles and gave up too many big plays."

Upcoming Schedule

Maloney will have a chance to get back on track this Friday night when they host Bristol Eastern at Falcon Field. The Lancers are coming off a 28-14 loss to Southington last week. Frederick said that his team is looking forward to the challenge of facing Bristol Eastern.

"Bristol Eastern is a well-coached team with some talented players," Frederick said. "We know that we're going to have to play our best game in order to beat them. We're excited for the challenge."

Team Leaders

Maloney will be led this season by a number of talented players, including senior quarterback Jake McAloon, senior running back Elijah Jeffers, and senior wide receiver Mike O'Connell. McAloon is a three-year starter who is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the state. Jeffers is a powerful runner who is coming off a breakout season in which he rushed for over 1,000 yards. O'Connell is a big-play threat who is one of the top receivers in the area.

With a talented roster and a veteran coaching staff, Maloney has the potential to be a contender in Class L this season. The Spartans will need to learn from their mistakes in the loss to New Canaan and play to their potential in order to achieve their goals.
