Rooting for Everybody Black at the US Open

From the Obamas to Pusha T, These Are All of the Black Familiar Faces in New York to Play and Watch Some of the Biggest Names in Tennis

You'll see celebrities peppering Arthur Ashe Stadium for two straight weeks of the US Open. In 2023, over 400 celebrities took in at least one match.

At one point during the night, the four players on court had 43 Grand Slam singles titles between them: John McEnroe (7) and Novak Djokovic (24) opposite Carlos Alcaraz (1) and Frances Tiafoe (0).

The occasion was the US Open Opening Night Gala, an annual event that supports the USTA Foundation's pledge to help 150,000 underserved young people in New York City learn and play tennis.

Here Are the Black Stars to Root for at This Year's US Open

• Coco Gauff: The 18-year-old American is one of the most promising young players in the world. She reached the French Open final in 2022 and is currently ranked No. 12 in the world.
• Frances Tiafoe: The 24-year-old American is a rising star on the ATP Tour. He reached the semifinals of the US Open in 2022 and is currently ranked No. 26 in the world.
• Madison Keys: The 27-year-old American is a former US Open champion (2017). She is currently ranked No. 22 in the world.
• Sloane Stephens: The 30-year-old American is a former US Open champion (2017). She is currently ranked No. 54 in the world.
• Venus Williams: The 42-year-old American is a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion. She is currently ranked No. 408 in the world.
• Serena Williams: The 41-year-old American is a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion. She is currently ranked No. 605 in the world.
