Switzerland earned a 1-1 draw against Scotland in their opening match of Group A at the 2024 European Championship on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. The Swiss took the lead in the 25th minute through Xherdan Shaqiri, but Scotland equalized in the 68th minute through Callum McGregor.
The result leaves Switzerland in second place in Group A, behind Spain, who beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in the other match in the group. Scotland is in third place, ahead of the Czech Republic.

In a separate incident, Switzerland defender Fabian Schär suffered a broken nose in the match. He is expected to miss Switzerland's next match against Spain.
