Can I Play Sorceries at the End of Combat?
Understanding the Combat Phase in Magic: The Gathering
In Magic: The Gathering, the combat phase is a crucial stage where players engage in battles with their creatures. The combat phase consists of five steps:
Beginning of Combat
Players declare attackers and defenders, determining which creatures will participate in combat.
Declare Blockers
Players assign blocking creatures to attacking creatures, potentially nullifying their damage.
First Strike Combat Damage
Creatures with first strike deal their damage simultaneously, bypassing any blockers.
Regular Combat Damage
All other creatures deal their damage to opponents or their creatures.
End of Combat
The combat phase concludes, and players move on to the next phase.
Sorceries in Combat
Sorceries are spells that can be played at various times during a game, including during combat. However, there are restrictions on when sorceries can be played during combat.
Sorceries cannot be played at the end of combat. After the End of Combat step, the game proceeds to the second main phase, during which players can play sorceries freely.
If you wish to play a sorcery that affects combat, you must play it during one of the following steps:
- Beginning of Combat
- Declare Attackers
- Declare Blockers
- First Strike Combat Damage
